The Koochiching Economic Development Authority Board is expected to discuss filling a vacated administrative assistant position when it meets Thursday.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in the council chambers at the Falls Municipal Building. An agenda is considered tentative until the government body begins the meeting and makes additions or deletions to the proposed agenda.

Lindsay Frank, KEDA administrative assistant, gave notice she will be leaving the position earlier this month. Her last day was April 18. KEDA Director Paul Nevanen told The Journal Wednesday four applications have been received for the position and it is his hope to hire someone before the board meets Thursday.

Nevanen added that the position has been brought down from full time to part time to better help with the KEDA’s budget and to possibly “attract different applicants.”

In other business Thursday, the board is expected to hear an update on the ongoing process to bring in a new cold weather testing customer that wants to construct a second cold box in the Falls.

Nevanen reports that a finalized agreement is in place and is in the process of going through a final committee on the customer’s end. The name of the customer has yet to be released, but Nevanen last month told the board it is a British manufacturer and he hopes to have a final agreement in place by Thursday so that the company can be revealed publicly.

Nevanen added that he hopes to begin the process of putting together a bid package and establish funding for the construction of the cold box.

The board Thursday is also scheduled to hear updates from Nevanen regarding the foreign trade zone wetland application and other ongoing KEDA projects.

The board offers an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of each regular meeting where the public may address the board.
