Dr. Scharazard Gray has joined Burntside Consultants clinic staff, reports owner Robin Ramquist.
As the new physician at the local clinic, Gray is at the forefront in assisting patients who suffer from any combination of chronic pain, and/or the disease of addiction and alcoholism.
Gray is celebrating his 25th year of recovery from a serious substance abuse, said a news release from Burntside. That first-hand knowledge has enabled him to understand the needs of patients with their disease process, it continued.
Gray is board certified in family medicine and fellowship trained in addiction psychiatry/medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University/Portland Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He was also an independent duty hospital corpsman in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Washington, Seattle, Wash., and a medical doctor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed internships in general surgery, family medicine, and his family practice residency at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville, Pa.
He has had the opportunity to work in many places among many cultures and has learned to listen and learn from those he serves, said the release.
International Falls is a good fit for Gray as he is an avid hiker, upland bird hunter and general outdoor enthusiast. He is also a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. With his interest, dedication and broad knowledge of addiction medicine he felt that Burntside Consultants would be a good match for him, the release said.
