International Falls resident Joyce Grover recently received a $50 gas/gift card through the ongoing “Tanks of Thanks” program by Cenex stations “for her dedication to her quilting group,” according to a news release from a division of the Minnesota-based energy giant.

“Tanks of Thanks is a program that rewards those making the places we live a little bit better,” the statement said.

Grover is chairwoman of the quilting group for First Lutheran Church in I. Falls and secures club donations, even providing hand-written “Thank You” notes. The one-of-a-kind quilts are then donated to Lutheran World Relief, according to Cenex and the church’s websites.

Even while suffering from arthritic pain, Grover remains an active quilter while being encouraging and positive for the group, according to the news release.

All women and men, with or without quilting experience, are encouraged to call Grover at 283-0854 to participate in the group, which works with Lutheran congregations across America, according to First Lutheran Church.

“There are people doing good things in every local community, and these acts of kindness do not go unnoticed or unappreciated,” stated spokeswoman Akhtar Hussain of CHS, which is Cenex’s parent company.

Grover joins the ranks of 174 Minnesotans who have now been given free gas for their community service. Others in Borderland are among those recognized.
