Bert Brown, Boise Inc. mill manager in International Falls, was named president of Minnesota Forest Industries last week.
MFI is a trade organization representing Minnesota’s forest products industry.
Before Brown’s election to serve as president of MFI, he most recently took on the role as one of the directors of MFI’s board. Brown will continue this position in addition to his newly elected role as president. His term as president begins this month and runs for two years.
Brown began at Boise in 1995. He joined MFI in 2009, the same year he became manager of the Boise paper mill in International Falls.
In addition to Brown’s election, Peter Aube, lumber mill manager at Potlatch in Bemidji, has been elected vice president, and Pat Mullen, Minnesota Power vice president of marketing and corporate communications, has been elected MFI treasurer.
“Bert, Peter and Pat all have a wealth of experience in the forest products industry,” said Wayne Brandt, MFI executive vice president. “Their leadership will be invaluable in charting the future of our industry in our state.”
According to a prepared statement from MFI, members of the organization encourage conservation, proper forest management, and industry development that foster sound environmental stewardship, multiple use of timberlands and sustainable, long-term timber supply. MFI’s role in representing the forest products industry includes taking these interests to various federal, state and local government entities.
Officers in MFI leadership positions are elected every two years; directors of the board are elected annually. Brown is expected to hold the position of president until the March 2014 elections.
