Rainy Lake Medical Center officials this week announced that Denise Warren will serve as the organization’s obstetrics and gynecology locum doctor.

RLMC officials in September announced that beginning Oct. 1, late-term prenatal care and baby delivery services at the RLMC clinic and hospital campuses will be temporarily halted. A shortage of doctors in the area providing prenatal care spurred the decision.

In order to continue baby delivery services, RLMC officials brought in Warren as the locum doctor, or a physician who works in place of the regular doctor when that doctor is absent, or when a hospital/practice is short-staffed.

Originally from Lansing, Mich., Warren is a 1992 graduate from Michigan State University and has been in OBGYN for her entire career. She completed her residency in Lansing at the Ingham Regional Medical Center and had her own practice for 10 years in Muskegon, Mich., where she currently resides.

Warren will be on the campuses of Rainy Lake Medical Center every other week providing OBGYN care to patients and will work alongside RLMC family practice doctors until a permanent doctor is placed on staff.

This is Warren’s first time in International Falls, and having worked previously in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Warren said she is used to the “intense winter weather.” Her hobbies include kayaking, yoga, painting, reading and cross country skiing.

“We are pleased to continue to provide OB care and we welcome Dr. Warren to RLMC,” said Bob Haley, RLMC interim CEO.

In addition to Warren, RLMC’s prenatal care team now consists of Samantha Crossley, Anthony Stone and Jeri Vergeldt. Doctors Bobbi Schneller and Jesse Heuer previously resigned from the clinic.
