Market conditions have led to a two-week shutdown at the Resolute Forest Products mill in Fort Frances.
Pierre Choquette, director of Resolute Forest Products Canadian public affairs in Montreal, told The Journal Monday the temporary shutdown began Sunday.
“Due to challenging market conditions, both paper production and kraft pulp production at the Fort Frances mill will be temporarily down from Oct. 28, yesterday, until Nov. 11,” said Choquette. “Obviously this is about market conditions and the fact that Boise is no longer taking pulp from the mill.”
Lori Lyman Boise Inc. public affairs manager, in International Falls, confirmed the discontinuation of purchasing pulp from the Fort Frances mill this month.
“We respect the privacy of our business relationship with Resolute and therefore cannot comment on specific contract terms; however, we can confirm we stopped regular pulp purchases from the Fort Frances mill in October and began using pulp from our Wallula, Wash., mill,” Lyman told The Journal. “This allows us to improve the efficiencies of both our mills and ensures we can continue to satisfy our customer commitments.”
Meanwhile, Lyman said planning has begun for the Boise Inc. 2013 annual outage, which will take place from May 4-14.
