My name is Eric Mathews, and I just started as an intern here at The Journal. This will be my second summer as an intern here, as some of you may remember me from last summer. I came back for a second round because I learned a lot about journalism and the writing process last year, and I can’t wait to learn more this summer.

I am 17 years old and next year I am going to be a senior at Falls High School. I am also attending classes at Rainy River Community College through the Post Secondary Enrollment Option program, and hope to graduate with my associate of arts degree in the spring.

I was first interested in working with a local newspaper because I love to write in my free time. I have been published in a national literary magazine for teens, have several short stories for sale online, and am currently working on a novel.

Whenever I am not at school or at work, I am running for the cross-country team, buzzing in answers at Knowledge Bowl meets, or hanging out with my friends.

While I’m here at The Journal, I will be writing articles and news stories, some emphasizing what teens in our area are doing and thinking. Most of all, I will be learning about journalism and what it’s like to be a reporter.

If you’re a teen and you know about something cool going on that you want people to know more about, feel free to call or text me on my cell at 218-417-0840, and I’ll try to make sure your voice is heard.
