When members of Tuesday Musicale decided to put on a Christmas-themed show, Shar Schaak and Mona Johnson admitted to automatically volunteering their help.
Now, with A Family Christmas Experience scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Backus Community Center Auditorium, the pair are excited for the first-time event and anxious to see the community’s reaction.
“We’ve never done a Christmas program and thought a family show would be exciting,” Johnson said.
The show will include an evening of Christmas music presented by local talent. It will feature Tuesday Musicale members, community members, children from local schools and churches and previous Tuesday Musicale music camp scholarship winners. The cast ranges in age from 1 month to 91 years old.
“We hope this show will appeal to everyone — young and old,” Schaak said. “There is a lot of great talent in this show, I think people will be really surprised.”
Special guests are also scheduled to appear in the show including Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman.
Well-known Christmas songs will be sung, and audience participation will be encouraged, the pair noted. A special ending of “Silent Night” in German by Margarete Kostiuk is anticipated by organizers.
The program will pose as one of this year’s main fundraisers for Tuesday Musicale’s annual scholarship awards. Each year, the group presents scholarships to area music students to attend a music camp during the summer. Other funds will go towards Backus Community Center projects.
To sum up what the group hopes the evening will hold, Tuesday Musicale member Marcia Bringedahl said, “People can go home with Christmas feeling in their hearts.”
Tickets are available at City Drug, the Backus office or at the door. Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for students; and $25 for families. Children age 5 and under are free.
