Rainy Lake Sinfonia and Orchestra

Members of the Rainy Lake Sinfonia and Rainy Lake Orchestra rehearse Monday afternoon in The Dungeon.

The Rainy Lake Sinfonia and Orchestra will present an annual summer string concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Ranier Community Building.

Musicians from Minnesota, Canada and across the United States are rehearsing this week in preparation for the concert. Performing musicians range from beginners to professionals, ages 12 to 85.

The string workshop is in its 34th year and has been sponsored by the local community orchestra, led by John Faith.

Concert selections will be by composers Corelli, Dvorak, Barber and Sibelius. Guest conductors are Beth Bistrow of Chicago, Ill.; Shannon Darby of Emo, Ontario; and Joe Belanger and Scott Roberts, both of International Falls.

Darby, Faith and Brian Tolley will be heard as soloists in the Corelli concerto.

The public is welcome to attend the free event. Refreshments will be served following the concert.

The concert is made possible in part by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.
