I don’t know about anyone else but I am having a hard time believing it is almost April already even if the trees are budding the crocus are blooming and spring has arrived here earlier than I’ve ever seen it.
April will be another busy month at the library before we slow things down a bit in May as we then prepare for summer reading programs and all that busyness. Storytimes will continue every Thursday morning in April at 10:30 a.m. During April we’ll hear stories about birds, rabbits, frogs and gardening. Preschoolers and their caregivers are welcome to join us for 20 to 30 minutes of stories, songs, and rhymes.
The Friends of the Library will meet Wednesday, April 4, at 3:30 p.m. to prepare the annual mailing for the membership drive. They will also be finalizing the summer reading t-shirt. The Friends monthly book sale will be Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All sales by donation with proceeds benefitting the Friends of the Library support of the library.
There is no school on Monday, April 9, and the library will make the Wiis available along with a variety of board games from noon to 2 p.m. Families are welcome to come and play games together for a couple of hours.
Teen gaming will be held on Tuesdays, April 10 and 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. Anyone is grades 7 and above is welcome to come and enjoy some refreshments and play games on the Wiis, PlayStation 3 as well as board games.
We have three programs in April that are paid for in part or in whole by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Funds. On Wednesday, April 11, at 4 p.m. the Minnesota Historical Society is providing a history player. Come meet Maud Hart Lovelace as presented by an actor! Anyone who enjoyed Betsy-Tacy as a child will be delighted to learn more about her childhood and writing. This is a marvelous program for anyone in elementary school and up, so grab a granddaughter and come learn more about one of Minnesota’s favorite authors.
Following that the city will provide a light supper of pizza for anyone willing to stay and attend a community conversation hosted by the League of Minnesota Cities about cities, services and funding. Community members are also welcome to come just for the supper and community conversation. This is your opportunity to make your voice heard, let the city know what services are important.
Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the library lobby the library is hosting a poetry reading with local poet Douglas Skrief and area poets Michelle Mathees and Julie Gard. Join us for a wonderful evening of reading and refreshments as the library celebrates National Poetry Month.
Author Jack Salmela with a Voyageur re-enactor will take us on a journey through early Minnesota history as experienced by the Vikings and Voyageurs on Tuesday April 24, at 1 p.m. They will have authentic artifacts including a musket which weather permitting will be fired after the program outside.
