Entertainment at Backus Community Center is about to take a step in a different direction than what is commonly performed on the auditorium’s stage.
On Feb. 25, Arch Allies are scheduled to step into the spotlight to give the first rock-style music concert at Backus.
“Traditionally, I don’t think we’ve done rock concerts here,” said Ward Merrill, executive director of Citizens for Backus/AB.
Arch Allies, a tribute band from the Twin Cities, performs songs made popular by Styx, REO Speedwagon and Journey. The band performed at the Irvin N. Anderson Amphitheater July 2 when it opened for Loverboy.
“They were phenomenal,” said Tim “Chopper” McBride, president of the International Falls Economic Development Authority of the July 2 performance. The EDA is collaborating with Citizens for Backus/AB to bring the February show to the area.
McBride explained that the main purpose of the concert is to give people something to do during the winter by bringing in the “fantastic music” Arch Allies plays.
“Arch Allies are excited about this show,” McBride added. “They don’t usually perform in a venue setting, so this will be different for them. They are really looking forward to doing this.”
“I am excited to have them come perform on our stage,” Merrill said. “I hope this concert draws in a lot of folks, maybe some who have never seen a show at Backus. This concert will be a big step for us and we’re hoping to make it a big success.”
While a specific time for the show has yet to be announced, McBride predicts tickets will be available for presale around Christmas.
“I encourage people to get their tickets early,” he said. “They will go fast.”
Organizers are expecting to have about 1,000 tickets for sale as well as refreshments available at the show.
“If you haven’t heard Arch Allies play, you should, they’re great,” McBride concluded. “Wherever they play, they are always asked back.”
