The regular meeting of the Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order Oct.10 by president Pat DeLapp with nine members present.
The opening ritual was held. Roll call of officers was conducted with John Sirotiak, Guard, pro-tem. One guest was in attendance, Lil Lavoy of Cloquet. Lavoy is the 8th District treasurer and chief of staff. She conducted a inspection of the Auxiliary.
There were no petitions for membership. The General Orders and Correspondence were read.
Motions were made to dispense with the reading of the September meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report as copies were distributed to members present.
Committee reports on Americanism and Youth Activities were given by Irene Anderson. She spoke about the Random Acts of Patroitism cards for youth.
Bingo is slated for 2:15 p.m. Oct. 19 at Good Samaritan Society-International Falls. Pies will be served at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Littlefork Care Center.
Membership report was given by Dawn Flesland. The Auxiliary is currently in third place for membership in the 8th District. The 990-N-E postcard has been filed.
Donations were made to purchase candy to distribute at Treat Street at Backus Community Center on Halloween and to American Gold Star Mothers.
Tacos on Monday are reportedly still doing well and volunteers are needed for the months starting January 2018 and forward.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11. Programs at local schools will take place Nov. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at Falls Elementary School; 11 a.m. at St. Thomas School; and 2:30 p.m. at Indus School. The Auxiliary plans to purchase pencils and placemats to hand out to students.
A special Bingo is planned for Veterans Day at the Post. Raffle tickets are available for a quilt donated by Cami Gray with the drawing set for at 3 p.m. at the Bingo.
Door prize was won by Kathy Sikkila.
The meeting was concluded at 8:05 p.m. with closing ceremonies.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Post Home dining room.
