Annual Autumn Arts Festival Oct. 9 and 10

A three-dimensional event scheduled for two days will help Borderland welcome the fall season as artisans and vendors prepare for the Annual Autumn Arts Festival at the Backus Community Center.

The festival is scheduled Oct. 9 and 10 and the hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Presenting for the public, the groups participating in the annual event are the Northern Lights Quilters Guild, the Northland Art Society and the Community Market vendors. Two silent auctions as well as lunch are also scheduled.

The quilt show will have some nice exhibits, according to Joyce Rasmussen, member of the quilting guild as well as the art society. There are several very large and queen-size handcrafted quilts to be displayed on the Backus stage. Members of the guild are also donating items to be sold in a silent auction on Saturday.

Set up in the front concourse at Backus, the Community Market will offer harvest foods and other items for sale. Vegetables, fruits, spices, soaps and lotions and a variety of food products will be included among those offerings.

The Northland Art Society invites people to view the work of local artists at an open house in the art room where demonstrations will also be held by the society’s artists. Just recently, the society has elected to open the art room for art shoppers, preceding and at intermissions of all events at Backus.

Running on both days, the Backus Basket Silent Auction will award baskets to the highest bidders, and the proceeds, which will be matched by the Otto Bremer Foundation, will benefit the kitchen project at Backus Community Center.

A soup and sandwich fundraiser prepared by Jay Hokenson is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The lunch is priced at $6 per person.
