Turn in reading slips
Today is the last day to turn in Teen and Adult Summer Reading slips at International Falls Public Library. Prize drawing will take place after the library closes tonight.
Work bee
Rainy River Riders Saddle Club will gather for a meeting and work bee at 6 p.m. tonight at the arena, Truck Route 332 and Highway 53. Call 218-875-2852 for more information.
Stories in the Park
Stories in the Park is set for 6 p.m. tonight at Smokey Bear Park. Last storytime of the summer. The public is welcome to join in for scary stories for all ages.
Family movie
A family movie is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Backus Auditorium. The public is welcome to enjoy a movie on the big screen and then stay for free lunch and open gym time.
Summer concert
The public is welcome to attend the annual summer string concert presented by Rainy Lake Community Orchestra and visiting musicians at 7 p.m. Friday at Ranier Community Building. There is no charge. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
Destination VNP
The public is welcome to attend an informational luncheon about Destination Voyageurs National Park set for noon Thursday at AmericInn. What should people know about DVNP, hear about the mission of the DVNP, its partners, and promotional endeavors to increase awareness of Voyageurs National Park.
Quilt guild
Whispering Pines Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Family Life Center of Evangelical Covenant Church. Quilters are reminded to wear a nametag, bring a fat quarter of batik for the drawing, and seven 5-inch squares of batik fabric if they wish to play the Left, Right, Center game. Show and Tell items are welcome. Quilters of any level of experience are welcome to attend.
VFW Post, Auxiliary
The 8th District Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary meeting is set for Saturday and Sunday. Post and Auxiliary members and their guests are welcome to attend the roast beef dinner Saturday at the Post, 1416 Third Ave. W. Cost is $12. For reservations, call Terry Randolph at 286-3099 or Linda Chezick, 240-1415, by Friday. Only Post and Auxiliary members are eligible to attend the 8 a.m. meeting Sunday, followed by lunch for $7. All VFW and Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend.
Backus Triathlon
Registrations are still open for the Backus Triathlon planned for Saturday. The Triathlon is at 10 a.m. at City Beach. Participants may register at 8 Saturday at City Beach, or in advance at Backus Community Center office and online at www.backusab.org. Individuals may enter, or register as teams of two or three. Run 5K, swim one-quarter mile and bike 11 miles. Call Backus at 285-7225 for information.
Book signing
Frank Youso will be selling and signing his book, “New York Sleeping Giant,” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Super One.
Horse show
Rainy River Riders Saddle Club will have an All-Game Horse Show at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, weather permitting at the arena, Truck Route 332 and Highway 53. Lunch on grounds. Spectators welcome. Call 218-875-2852 for more information.
Moose Lodge events
The annual Moose Lodge-sponsored fishing derby is planned for Saturday with registrations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thunderbird Lodge. Potluck will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Moose Lodge. Call 283-3615 for information.
