Community Oktoberfest
International Falls Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Community Oktoberfest set for 5 p.m. Friday at Elks Lodge. Authentic homemade German meal will be served for $7 per plate. Polka and accordion music will be presented by local folks. The public is welcome to attend.
Class of 1962
Falls High School Class of 1962 will meet for lunch at 12:10 p.m. today at Rose Garden Restaurant.
Political forum
A political forum of local candidates running for public positions is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Rainy River Community College Theater. Races scheduled to be represented by International Falls City Council (including mayoral), Ranier Council (including mayoral), Koochiching County Board and District 361 School Board. The forum is produced by local college and high school students and coordinated by the International Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
Harvest bazaar
The annual Harvest Bazaar and supper, sponsored by Zion Lutheran Church Women, is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church located at 530 Sixth St. A freewill offering will be accepted for the supper. Baked goods will be available, along with crafts, treasures, napkins and cards. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Pro-Life Update
Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life will present a free pro-life update, discussing the new health care law, successful efforts to save lives and much more, at 7 p.m. Friday at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1631 First Ave. E. For more information, visit www.mccl.org. All are welcome.
Book sale
Friends of the Library book sale is set for 4 to 6 p.m. today at the library. All sales by donation with proceeds benefiting Friends support of library programming.
Library storytime
Storytime at International Falls Public Library is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursdays. Stories, rhymes and songs will be featured around a theme for 20 to 30 minutes. Geared to children ages 3 to 5. All are welcome.
Musical ministry
The public is welcome to attend an appearance by John and Dody Martin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2726 Pleasant Ave. They present a mix of inspirational, worship, traditional, conservative contemporary and Southern gospel music.
Public luncheon
Cindy Conkins, senior planner of Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging/Arrowhead Regional Development Commission, will present a public luncheon, Caregivers and the Workplace, at noon Oct. 18 at AmericInn. It is reported that the numbers of personal caregivers who are also employed in regular full-time jobs are accelerating. Also growing are pressures placed on the care-giving employee as well as the employer/business. Cost is $9.
