Independent School District 361 Board of Education will gather for a special meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Falls High School cafeteria.

 

Stuff, Bake Sale

A Christmas Stuff Sale, Bake Sale and Sloppy Joe Feed is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Faith United Church of Christ, 1001 Fifth St.

 

Waste station closed

The Solid Waste Transfer Station/Recycling Center will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day. Normal operating hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday, 9 to 1. For information, call Koochiching County Environmental Services Department at 283-1157.

 

Great Decisions

The Great Decisions community group of citizen education and discussion programs about foreign policy issues will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at International Falls Public Library meeting room in the lower level. Byrne and Carole Johnson will facilitate “Exit from Afghanistan and Iraq.” Contact Sue Nordquist at 283-8687 or Diane Adams at the library if a group of students or individuals plan to attend. Materials will be provided to all guests.

 

VFW Auxiliary

The regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Post Home dining room, 1416 Third Ave.-Highway 53. Members are encouraged to attend. A light lunch will follow the meeting.

 

Top the Tater supper

A  Top the Tater supper is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Backus Community Center. The $6 per person cost includes baked potato, toppings, salad, dessert  and beverage. Tater suppers are also available “to go.” Dinner ticket value packs for sale at the supper. Supper precedes Border Concert “Two on Tap” at 7:30 at Backus Auditorium. Thanksgiving Party

A Thanksgiving Party is planned for Thursday at Koochiching County Senior Center, 307 Fourth St. Music will be presented from 10:30 a.m. to noon by Don and Friends. Lunch will be served at noon. For reservations by Wednesday, call 283-3460.

 

Class pf 1962

Falls High School Class of 1962 will meet for lunch at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at Lenard’s.

 

Quilters presentation

Whispering Pines Quilt Guild will host Sharon Linders, a resident of Aitkin and Mesa, Ariz., at 7 p.m. Thursday as she gives a presentation entitled “Quilts and the Stories They Tell.” Linders is a quilting teacher, pattern designer and quilt collector. A $3 admission charge applies to non-quilt members. Refreshments will follow.

 

Border Concert bus

The Veterans of Foreign Wars-sponsored bus to the second Border Concert, “Two on Tap,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Backus Auditorium will pick up at Hampton Court at 6:35 p.m., West Falls Estates and Robb-Ross at 6:40, River’s Edge Villa at 6:45 and Woodland at 6:50.

 

Book signing

Melissa Ann Winter will be at International Falls Public Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today signing copies of her new book, Butterfly Dreams. Copies of the book will be available for sale as well.

 

Book sale

The Friends of the Library book sale is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at International Falls Public Library. Several books are available for purchase by donation with all proceeds benefitting the Friends of  the Library support of the library.

 

Caregiver presentation 

“Your Feelings Matter: Caring for Yourself As You Care for Others,” a free public presentation on the emotional impact of family care giving, will be conducted Thursday. Guest speakers will be Dr. Willard Johnson of Northland Counseling Center, Brenda Crowe of Blue Heron Counseling Service and Christa Heibel of ReplenishMindBodySpirit. Registration begins at 6 p.m. at Backus Community Center, 900 Third St. The session will run from 6:30 to 8:30. Light refreshments and drawings will be offered. Elders advisory council

Koochiching County Elders Advisory Council will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kootasca Senior Center, Northome. All are welcome to attend this time for sharing and receiving information about community, organization, agency or event and how it impacts older adults in the county. Gina Bergeron will do a special presentation on  State Services for the Blind.
