Women of the Moose

The Women of the Moose will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in the clubrooms. Plans will be made for the annual Moose Harvest Supper set for Oct. 20.

 

Backus concert

“Monroe Crossing,”  Bluegrass and Gospel Quintet, returns to Backus Community Center Friday. Local band “Sloughgrass” will open the concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at City Drug, Betty’s in Fort Frances, and at the door. Call Backus at 285-7225 for information.

 

Quilt guild

Whispering Pines Quilt Guild will meet Thursday in the Family Life Center of Evangelical Covenant Church.  The annual potluck dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the guild meeting at 7. Election of officers will take place. Quilters are reminded to wear a nametag, bring a fat quarter of Fall colored fabric for the drawing and seven 5-inch squares of Fall colored fabric if they wish to play the Left, Right, Center game. Show and Tell items are always welcome. Quilters of any level of experience are welcome to attend.

 

Jam Session

Peter Graham Veterans of Foreign Wars Post will host a Jam Session Saturday. A sloppy joe plate with all the trimmings will be served for a free will offering  beginning at 5:30  p.m. Local entertainment starts at 7:30. Raffles will be featured. Proceeds will go to the Northland Honor Flight which allows local World War II veterans a chance to travel to Washington, D.C., to see the memorial built in their honor.

 

Health care reform presentation

Beyond the Affordable Care Act: Advancing Health  Care Reform, will be presented Monday at Rainy River Community College Auditorium. Registration begins at 6 p.m. with the program from 6:30 to 8:30. Eileen Weber of Physicians for a National Health Program and Erin Anderson, executive director of Health Care for All-Minnesota, will discuss the future of health care reform.
