City Beach bathhouse

The City Beach bathhouse will be remodeled after Labor Day.

An Otto Bremer Foundation grant of $34,710 will help International Falls remodel the City Beach bathhouse.

Shawn Mason, director of economic and community development for International Falls, said Tuesday that the Bremer Foundation called Tuesday to notify city officials that the grant had been approved.

“We are truly grateful for the grant which not only benefits the residents of International Falls, but also those of the surrounding area,” Mason said in a statement on the grant.

Work on the bathhouse is scheduled to be completed this fall after the summer season ends, according to Mason.

“We want everyone to enjoy the great weather by coming out to the City Beach in August, but after Labor Day we will start on the remodel,” she said.

The remodeling project includes making the bathhouse accessible to people with handicaps, installation of lockers, electrical updating as well as paint and general repairs.

“The trustees of the Otto Bremer Foundation recognized the need for this project,” said Aretha Green-Rupert, program officer for the Otto Bremer Foundation who visited City Beach as part of the application process.

Green-Rupert noted that the grant was approved by the trustees at the July 26 meeting.

The Otto Bremer Foundation’s mission is to help ensure that “opportunities for economic, civic, and social participation are within everyone’s reach.” Information about the Otto Bremer Foundation is available at www.ottobremer.org.
