The International Falls Lions Club met March 1.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by president Dick Schaak. The Invocation was given by Beverly Mayfield. Minutes and treasurers reports were given by Karen Briese and Serene Milette, respectively.
Dick Briese gave a report on the fishing derby lunch wagon which made a profit of more than $1,000. Tim Shuff donated some pulled pork which was a real hit. All leftover food was donated to the Salvation Army.
Correspondence consisted of a notice of MD5M Convention in Fergus Falls April 23-25; an invitation from Border State Bank to take part in Fight Hunger March 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (they will match funds up to $1,000); and thank you letters from Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota and the Salvation Army.
Briese reported on the Mid-Winter Convention held in Duluth. Total Parade of Green donations came to $85,295.
A donation of $500 each was made to the Falls Hunger Coalition and the Salvation Army.
There was a discussion regarding the Home Show where we will offer blood sugar screening April 16-17. Nurses from Koochiching County Health Department will assist.
Caryn Noland has done a lot of research on hosting a health fair the last Thursday of September. It will be at the International Mall and groups are encouraged to have tables with information, etc.
Raffle tickets were available to benefit “Project New Hope” to help veterans as they return home.
First reading of nominated officers for 2010-11 was held.
Installation of new members will be held at the April meeting.
Ice melt sales have been good this winter and we have plenty on hand for any storms to come in March.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. April 5 at the Holiday Inn.
