The annual event aims to raise money for the Borderland Humane Society

Board members of the Borderland Humane Society have big goals in mind for this year’s Cause for Paws event scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 28 at Lenards in the AmericInn.

The fourth annual event aims to raise money for BHS and animals in need living within the community and will feature a dinner, live and silent auctions, games, and a guest speaker.

“We would love to raise $18,000 this year,” said board member Amy Morrison.

Morrison continued that the goal is “ambitious,” but said the Cause for Paws committee believes that donations received from people and businesses in the community can make the goal a realistic one.

Last year, Morrison said about $12,500 was raised during the event, making it the most successful year to date.

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser are used to help support the well being of abused and neglected animals in the area, Morrison explained.

Board member Roneisha Torgerson added that a large portion of the money raised will help with vet bills and vouchers given out to pet owners to get their dogs and cats spayed or neutered.

“Proceeds also go to the up keep and maintenance of the holding facility,” Torgerson noted.

This year, Mike Fritz will be the event’s guest speaker. Fritz has been a long-time volunteer for BHS and he is expected to share stories of his experiences with the animals.

“Cause for Paws is an admirable event for people to attend because it is a fundraiser to help the animals in need in our community,” Morrison said. “Without the Borderland Humane Society, thousands of animals who are now someone’s best friend wouldn’t have had such a great fate.”

Advance tickets for the event are $25 and available at City Drug, Coffee Landing, and Rainy River Veterinary Hospital. Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the event for $30.

Torgerson concluded that Cause for Paws “is all around fun for the whole family.”
