New Years Eve celebrations are on the minds of many as Friday draws closer. Those planning on ringing in 2011 with a few cocktails should keep in mind that City Cab in the Falls is once again offering free cab rides to and from select locations Dec. 31 between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Chief of Police Mike Musich said he is happy City Cab is providing this service for people and hopes it will help keep intoxicated drivers from getting behind the wheel.

“People who go out and celebrate shouldn’t take any chances,” Musich said.

Musich noted that officers are prepared for anything on any given day, especially New Years Eve, however, he said it is nice to know free cab rides are an alternative to the popular celebration and that the service “definitely helps.”

“Free is a lot cheaper than a DWI,” Musich reminded.

The following businesses are on the list to receive free rides: the Elk’s Club, Hanson’s Outpost, Lenard’s in the AmericInn, Ranier Municipal Liquor Store, Rumors Up North, the VFW Post 2948 and The Spot on 53.

City Cab urges those wishing to take advantage of this service to call and reserve their ride early for faster service.

Musich hoped people who don’t use the free cab rides arrange other means of transportation before heading out Friday.

“People should line up a designated driver, plan to walk or take a cab,” Musich said. “We hope that nobody gets behind the wheel on New Years Eve or any other night.”

To reserve a ride call City Cab at 283-8635.
