Magician Star Michaelina is performing in the library meeting room, today, Wednesday, July 25, at 4 p.m. Come see magic and wonder and be delighted.
Summer Reading is beginning to slow down. Tomorrow, Thursday, July 26, is the last day for children to turn in hours to order a T-shirt. If they have read and recorded 10 hours of reading this summer then make sure they get those hours turned in to the junior room of the library by 6 p.m. on Thursday. The T-shirt order goes in first thing Friday morning so that we can have T-shirts ready by the summer reading picnic on Thursday, Aug. 2, at 12:30 p.m., with our traditional meal of hot dogs, sloppy joes, potato chips, Kool-Aid and ice cream. All summer readers are welcome to join the fun. Dennis Warner will perform a concert at 1 p.m. at the park, so come get your T-shirt, have lunch and enjoy some great music.
The library will continue to accept hours read by children until the end of August (they just can’t get a T-shirt after July 26). So if you have children who are still working on those 15 and 25 hours prizes, encourage them to keep reading!
Teen and adult summer reading programs will continue to accept book slips for books read until 8 p.m. on Aug. 15. All slips need to be turned in by closing on Wednesday, Aug. 15, as we’ll be doing the drawing that night with winners announced Thursday, Aug. 16. Don’t forget, one lucky teen or adult will be the winner of an iPad2.
Friday, July 27, at 10 a.m., the library will be showing a family movie on the Backus stage. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a feature film on the big screen at Backus. Then stay and enjoy a free lunch (anyone under age 18) and then open gym at Backus.
Stories in the Park will continue each Wednesday night at 6 p.m. through Aug. 15. Join us for 30 to 40 minutes of stories, rhymes and of course a bean bag song. We meet at the east end of the park behind the Koochiching County Museum. If the weather is yucky (cold, wind, rain, etc.) then meet at the library for a 6:15 start.
Teen gaming will be held twice in August. Any teen in grades 7 and above is welcome to come to the library meeting room and enjoy electronic and board games from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 and Tuesday, Aug. 28. Refreshments are provided and no registration is necessary.
The library will make the gaming equipment along with a selection of board games available for families to play together on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.
We’ll finish up summer programming on Friday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. with a final family movie on the Backus Auditorium screen. Join us for a movie, lunch and open gym.
The Friends of the Library August book sale will be Friday, Aug. 24, from noon to 4 p.m. during the bass tournament.
