Oil paintings, clay sculptures, stained glass — a little bit of everything is going on in room 114 of the Backus Community Center as members of the Northland Art Society continue to produce works of art.
The group opens the doors of their art room to members of the community to view or purchase the works each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We’ve had quite a few people coming through lately,” said society member Kay Arnold.
As members of the group continue to make and create a variety of art pieces, they are also gearing up for their first workshop scheduled for Nov. 4-6.
Joyce Rasmussen, society member and organizer of the workshop, said the group chose the opening weekend of deer season to attract those who choose to stay in town rather than venture out in the woods in search of a trophy buck.
“I hope we have a good turnout,” Rasmussen said.
Nov. 4 workshops will be held from 6-9 p.m.; Nov. 5 will have two workshops from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.; and the Nov. 6 workshop will be from 1-4 p.m.
The cost to take part in the workshops is $15 per session and includes a few supplies. Two instructors will take over each session. Workshops to be offered include beginning watercolor, advanced watercolor, abstract and collage. When each will be offered will be decided as the date nears.
Rasmussen said the group appreciates that anyone interested in taking part in one or all of the workshops contact her at 283-4272.
“We’re doing this for the community,” she said. “We wanted to try something different.”
