The dementia caregivers group met at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 3 at Lenard’s. I was ill, so was unable to attend. I am now back to my own self and doing much better.

I will mention the workshop that is being offered by Koochiching Aging Options. This is called a Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop. Leslee Loop and Doug Skrief are in charge of this event. It will take place March 15-19. For more information, call 283-7030 for details.

Not too long ago I was at the library and going through a New York Times newspaper. There was full page ad on the statistics in regard to Alzheimer’s. The facts are percentages of survivors of major diseases and where how much of the money is spent. Six percent of the money goes for cancer. Facts are $7.9 billion are invested for this disease. In 2010, the amount of $469 million was spent on Alzheimer’s research. These figures are from the National Institute of Health. As we all know it is a constantly growing population, and we are all living longer. I thought this was very interesting data which covered a full page of the New York Times.

In the last couple of weeks we lost one of our most beloved members of our group. Cay Gendron was an ombudsman for a number of years. She was one of a kind, always so gracious and always concerned about each and every one of her clients. We will miss her dearly. She was a beautiful lady.
