The local dementia caregivers support group met May 6 at Barney’s Family Restaurant. The restaurant has agreed to let the group gather there, same time, 11:30 a.m. We are very fortunate that we will have that facility available to us.
We were so thrilled to have some new people in attendance. It makes us feel all our efforts to reach out to those who are going through this Alzheimer journey are not in vain and to encourage family and friends to look around and offer your time, or just a call to let them know you are thinking of them and to offer hope and a prayer for all their families.
This is such a struggle and all the decisions are so difficult to make. Oftentimes the caregiver is the one that will get sick, or so run down with their own health that it takes a double-whammy, and so both are severely affected.
Diane Windsnes was in attendance. This really helps, as she has been very involved as to working with the elderly so she has consented to give us a hand which we appreciate so very much.
We also now have Leslee Loop, her position with the county is Program Specialist for Koochiching County On Aging Options. Within a few months we will be setting a program that will be available to the community. The Alzheimer representative will be presenting the program and I will let the public know when and where this may be held.
The next meeting is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the back room at Barney’s Family Restaurant.
