The International Falls Lions Club resumed meeting Sept. 7 at Almost Lindy’s.
Dick Schaak opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and table prayer.
Karen Briese read the minutes and treasurers report. Kudos were given to Serene Milette and Kevin Gordon for organizing and working many hours for the Fourth of July and bass tournament lunch wagon. In spite of the weather, profits were good. This is one of ways we earn money which is donated to local causes.
A donation was made to the International Lions Foundation in memory of John Roche. Caryn Noland reported on the up-coming Health Fair. Fifty or more tables are already reserved for the “Roaring Lions Health Fair” to be held Sept. 30 at the International Mall. The event is sponsored by the Lions, KGHS, Boise and Rainy Lake Medical Center. Many health related and Informational tables will be available. The health department will be doing blood pressures and cholesterol tests. Professionals will be available to talk to about massage, foot therapy, yoga, Weight Watchers and glaucoma testing. Deckers will offer an Alzheimer’s test along with information for the deaf and hard of hearing and services for the blind plus others too numerous to mention.
The club voted to purchase glasses for a local girl.
Thunder Bay Lions Club sent a reminder regarding Mid-Winter Convention Jan. 28-30. A $100 donation was made to “Team Olivia” for the Diabetes Walk Oct. 2 in Brainerd. The three girls that went to the diabetes camp this summer will attend the next meeting and give a report.
Dick Briese spoke on the advancements of the Spring Point Project as they look for a cure for diabetes.
Ice melt will be available for sale again this winter, so get prepared before the big storm. Call Briese at 286-5508 for a 40-pound pail.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 when we will have a fish fry/potluck and will plan for Governor’s Night. The gathering will be held at Briese’s, 3563 County Road 21.
