Homecoming royalty

The homecoming royalty for each grade pose for a photo after receiving their crowns Friday. From left, the winners are: Austin Schaaf and Rachel Roeder, 11th grade; Derek White and Olivia Santee, 12th grade; Jessica Hell and Allen Johnson, 10th grade; and Savannah Boe and Mitchell Tomczak, ninth grade. The candidates were presented during half time at Friday’s homecoming football game.

The sounds of the Falls High School fight song rang through 11th Street Friday to kick off the school’s annual homecoming parade. A large marching band led floats carrying cheerleaders, sports teams, homecoming royalty and even the self-proclaimed “t.p. squad” down the street to kick off the day’s homecoming events.

Last week recognized the much-anticipated homecoming week by high school students and came complete with the parade, pep fest and coronation ceremony to crown the 2012 royalty.

“It is always my favorite week,” one student told The Journal as she waved to friends on the cross country team’s float.

Friday’s events concluded the week, which was full of dress-up days and activities organized by members of the FHS Student Council.

Coronation

Before the playful antics of the pep fest got underway, eight students in grades 9-12 received crowns, naming them the 2012 king and queen for their respected grade level.

In ninth grade, Savannah Boe and Mitchell Tomczak received the honor; in 10th grade, Jessica Hell and Allen Johnson had crowns placed on their heads; the 11th grade queen was Rachel Roeder and the king was Austin Schaaf; the senior royalty recognition went to Olivia Santee and Derek White.

The gymnasium full of friends and family of those being crowned erupted into cheers for each couple. Camera flashes filled the room as each pair presented themselves.
