Members for film board sought
Plans to develop a local film festival are currently underway.
The International Falls Public Library, in collaboration with the Backus Community Center, are working on the creation of a Borderland film festival.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films, usually in a single locality and typically an annual event. Examples of notable film festivals on a larger scale are the Cannes Film Festival, New York’s Tribeca Film Festival, and Utah’s Sundance Film Festival.
The first local family film festival, entitled On the Edge, will be held in May 2011, according to library director, Diane Adams.
“It will be open to anyone, but we are particularly seeking local endeavors,” Adams said.
Adams noted that the collaborators are currently seeking grant funding for a projector and screen for the Backus auditorium as well as funding to pay an instructor to teach classes on using camera and editing equipment. The library is also in the process of purchasing two cameras and a computer for editing movies.
Adams announces that members for a board to manage the film festival are also being sought.
“The board will create guidelines and screen the entered films,” Adams said, adding that the goal is to create a two-night festival in early May each year, beginning in 2011.
