Gardening program here at the library this Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., put on by the Garden Girls. Come get your garden questions answered (or at least debated), pick up a plant or two and enjoy some refreshments. We’ll have a display of some of our garden books along with a variety of handouts you can have.
Spring is definitely here and that can often mean lighter reading as we spend time outdoors and maybe sitting on a beach. The library has all five of the top New York Times fiction bestsellers and all five non-fiction bestsellers. The fiction titles include The Wind Through the Keyhole by Stephen King, The Innocent by David Baldacci, Calico Joe by John Grisham, The Witness by Nora Roberts and Crystal Gardens by Amanda Quick.
The non-fiction titles include Drift by Rachel Maddow, Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake by Anna Quindlen, Prague Winter by Madeleine Albright with Bill Woodward, Imagine by Jonah Lehrer and The Presidents Club by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy. All of the above titles are generally checked out, you may place a request that we save the titles in which you are interested.
In the meantime you may want to take a look at these new titles which don’t have waiting lists (at least until I talk about them) Jude Deveraux has a new book entitled Heartwishes. What if your most closely guarded wishes suddenly began to come true? Most of us think that would be marvelous, but would it really?
Earlene Fowler also has a new book out called Spider Wed, a new Benni Harper mystery. The town of San Celina is holding a memory festival but someone seems determined to make the festival itself a memory, to be remembered in the worst way. A new mystery author is Gray Basnight who introduces Donna Prima, a cop with the NYPD, in The Cop with the Pink Pistol.
The library still has an extensive magazine collection and all but the current issues are available for checkout. So if you don’t feel you have the time to commit to an entire book then try a magazine or two. We subscribe to everything from “Time” to “Artists Magazine” to “Northern Gardener” and “Men’s Health” along with 80 other titles.
And if long car trips are in your plans for this summer be sure and check out a book on compact disc to take along for the ride. The library also makes available a wide variety of titles in downloadable format. Visit arrowhead.lib.overdrive.com to download the software needed to play these audiobooks and download the books as well. You can also download e-books from the same site, although they are getting more popular and you often have to request a book be saved. But if you have an e-book reader, check out our collection of e-books.
Saturday, May 19, will be our last Saturday open until after Labor Day. All other hours remain the same over summer.
