The Garden Girls and International Falls Public Library are partnering to provide the public with plants and information at a sale set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

A variety of perennials, house plants and pots will be available. All plants will be labeled with care information along with other handouts about gardening in this area, and copies of the University of Minnesota Extension Guidebook, MN Hardy.

Experts will be available to answer questions and provide advice. Koochiching County Men’s Garden Club member Orin Simon will share his tomato growing secrets.

Garden Girls welcome Joanne Kellner, a Lake of the Woods Master Gardener since 2007, who will be present to share information about rain gardens — which is a shallow depression filled with flood-tolerant shrubs, flowers, and grasses. Its main functions are to collect and filter storm water runoff, however gardeners report they also add beauty to the landscape and may attract butterflies and birds.

As part of the garden event, a yard and garden sale will be featured at “yard sale” prices. All items are for yard and garden only ... outdoor living, used, loved a lot, good to excellent condition items ... planters, pots, containers, lawn furniture, tools, etc.

The public is encouraged to stop by the library for free coffee and sweets with the Garden Girls and pick up valuable information.
