It has been a while since we took a look at the New York Times Bestseller list to see how many titles the library owned. We have eight of the 10 top fiction and non-fiction titles available to reserve. These are popular titles and we will need to add your name to a list to be notified when the book or books are available for your reading pleasure.
The titles we own in alphabetical order are The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, How Children Succeed by Paul Tough, Joseph Anton by Salman Rushdie, No Easy Day by Mark Owen with Keven Maurer, The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom, A Wanted Man by Lee Child and Winter of the World by Ken Follett. So add your name to the books you’d like to read and swing by the library for books you don’t have to wait.
The library as part of the Arrowhead Library System provides e-books and audiobooks that you can download from home onto your electronic reading/listening devices. The system contracts with Overdrive to provide this service. Get started today at http://arrowhead.lib.overdrive.com. A full list of usable devices can be found at http://www.overdrive.com/resources/drc/. Directions for loading the software to read library books on your device are available through Overdrive and can be found at http://help.overdrive.com/?Sup=http://arrowhead.lib.overdrive.com/Support.htm.
Overdrive also provides email support to our patrons who are having trouble loading books onto their devices and I know that at least Barnes and Noble which produces the Kindle has been great at helping patrons as well. The library system purchases books and audiobooks that meet our selection criteria and that are available to libraries for purchase. If you don’t find a book you’d like to read electronically, it is possible that the library is unable to buy it. This service is popular and becoming more popular all the time, so it is possible that you will have to request items to read and wait to be notified when it is your turn. We can only circulate one copy at a time for each copy the library system has purchased. The books check out for two weeks and automatically expire at two weeks so you never have late fees.
Don’t forget the library activities the next couple of days while students have a long weekend. Storytime at 10:30 a.m. with a theme of dogs is great for any child up to about 7 years of age. Thursday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. teens (grades 7 and above) can enjoy pizza and games in the meeting room. Families can enjoy games together on Friday morning from 10 a.m. to noon in the meeting room. The three Wiis will be available along with a variety of board games. And of course we would love to have you and your children stop by to stock up on books. We always have a wide selection of new, old, classic, a variety of reading levels and more. Come check us out!
