Give to the Max Day is the largest one-day fundraising event in the world and it’s easy to be a part of it.

Many local nonprofits and special projects are participating in the online event Nov. 15.  From midnight to 11:59 p.m., for 24 hours, the website www.giveMN.org will connect potential donors with causes that need support. Just go to the website, search by zip code 56649, and local names and faces will be available.

A few of the nonprofits that have pages where information about missions and services include: Backus Community Center, Icebox Radio Theater, Koochiching Aging Options, Friends Against Abuse, Borderland Humane Society, Rainy River Community College Foundation and Falls Hunger Coalition.

During last year’s Give to the Max Day, 47,534 donors logged on resulting in donations of $13.4 million. This is the fourth annual campaign and it is unique in the world. Since 2009, single-day records for philanthropic giving have been broken each year.

“Online giving is convenient and secure,” said Bremer Nonprofit Resource Specialist Myrna Meadows, who is coordinating local publicity “It is a growing sector of charitable giving. It also helps young donors become familiar with needs and opportunities in their communities.”

This year, participating organizations will be eligible for prize grants in the form of “Golden Tickets” — an hourly drawing to add $1,000 to a donor’s donation, randomly selected from those who gave during each hour of the event. Two super-sized Golden Tickets of $10,000 will also be awarded.  Livestream coverage of events from Mall of America, including celebrities and athletes, will be via The UpTake.

Give to the Max Day is produced by GiveMN.org, a collaborative effort to grow charitable giving in Minnesota and move more of it online. Online donations have low fund raising costs. Donations are secure and can be made anonymously. Tax deduction receipts are sent via email. GiveMN charges 2.9 percent in transaction fees; there is no up-front cost to participating in the day-long event.
