Members of the Northern Lights Quilters Guild are gearing up for their 14th biannual show, “Quilts Along the Border,” Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the AmericInn.

The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

“We will display a lot of what we’ve worked on since the last show,” said member Mary Graves.

Graves is one of about 13 members who quilt in the guild. “We laugh a lot,” she said of the crafty group that formed in 1980.

The group will showcase its works, ranging from quilts to table runners.

“People usually really enjoy looking at all the quilts at our show,” said member Deb Landmark. “It is also a great opportunity for children. They love to see all the colors.”

Those who attend the show will pay an admission fee of $2 that will also get them a raffle ticket for a quilt raffle.

A queen-size quilt will be raffled off and additional tickets can be purchased aside from the one given at admission.

“It is a quilt we have all worked on,” said member Val Sjoblom.

Sjoblom, owner of On A Wing & A Prayer Quilting, has been a member of the guild for five years. She explained that her business, which is to finish custom quilts for people, has helped out in the guild.

“Basically, people do all the fancy work, and I finish it off for them,” Sjoblom said.

Show goers can also vote on a large, medium, and small quilt to receive the Viewer’s Choice Award.

Members of the guild stressed that the show is open to anyone.

“We have had some men come through in the past,” Graves said. “We hope to get a lot of traffic looking at our work.”

The Northern Lights Quilters Guild features works by beginning to advanced quilters to offer a variety of finished products to be displayed at the show.

The guild is always looking for more members and hopes the show will bring awareness to the group.

“This is a great group of ladies,” Landmark summed up. “It is amazing what I’ve learned from this group.”
