Over 40 area residents recently learned about the basics of Alzheimer’s disease from Deborah Richman, vice president education and outreach of the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota-North Dakota.

The presentation at the Rainy River Community College theatre described various kinds of dementia, of which Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. Reasons for early diagnosis were related along with statistics about the disease.

Richman also addressed issues of communication and memory loss and how best to consider both verbal and non-verbal approaches when engaged in communication.

The event was sponsored by the Greater International Falls ACT on Alzheimer’s initiative and Koochiching Aging Options.

Those with questions about dementia are encouraged to call Koochiching Aging Options at 283-7030 or the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.
