Lion Bill Michl, of Fort Frances, Ontario, was recently inducted as Governor of Lions International District 5M-10 at the International Lions Clubs Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.
As district governor, Michl will lead 45 clubs serving communities in Northwestern Ontario and Northeastern Minnesota.
A member of Lions Club International since 2005, Michl has served as the Fort Frances Voyageur Lions Club president for two terms, club treasurer, board member, District 5M-10 zone chair, and cabinet chair for both youth outreach and environmental.
An avid marathon runner, Michl has raised money for charity marathons, volunteers for several community organizations and is active in his own Lions club’s many projects and activities.
Michl succeeds Past District Governor Mark Osthus of the Duluth Lions Club. “I am honored. Lions have a proud history of service both locally and internationally. We will continue to grow and be a force to be reckoned with. Together the world will be a better place,” said Michl.
A retiree from the pulp and paper industry, Michl lives in Fort Frances and has three sons, one daughter and eight grandchildren.
Lions Club International is the world’s largest service organization of over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in 212 countries. Since 1917 it has been known for its many local community service projects. Lions Clubs support programs throughout the world having to do with vision and hearing loss, diabetes research, youth development, Special Olympics and disaster relief.
