The Oct. 20 meeting of Tuesday Musicale was conducted at the home of Judy Peterson. Seven members were in attendance.
Longtime member Marcia Bringedahl passed away Oct. 2, 2015. Bringedahl was an integral part of Tuesday Musicale and will be greatly missed by all. A music scholarship is being set up in her name, in perpetuity. Minnesota Public Radio dedicated her a song Oct. 23.
Bringedahl had been storing back years of historical paperwork for Tuesday Musicale and Ed Oerichbauer of the historical society has graciously agreed to take and preserve them.
A discussion was held regarding meetings during the winter months. It was decided that president Linda Torseth would talk to Ward Merrill, Backus Community Center executive director, to see if Backus could accommodate members for lunch meetings January through April. There will be no November meeting and the Dec. 15 meeting will be the Christmas party at Torseth’s.
Members are in the planning stages for the T.E.T. Vietnamese New Year dinner scheduled for Feb. 13.
The Christmas party took place Dec. 15 at the Torseth residence. She prepared and served delicious simmered pork shops with members providing several accompanying side dishes and dessert.
A brief business meeting followed the dinner. Members answered roll call by singing the first line of their favorite Christmas carol. By tradition, Margarete Kostiuk would always sing the first verse of “Silent Night” in German, with members joining in for the second verse. In her absence, members called her and sang, “We Wish You A Merry Christmas,” which was received with much emotion.
Torseth received approval from Merrill to conduct the winter month meetings in the Backus dining room from noon to 1 p.m. If that room is being used, he will provide an alternative room. Members will bring a sack lunch and coffee will be available.
Tuesday Musicale members helped serve at the Community Café Dec. 29. The next volunteer date is June 2.
The February T.E.T. dinner menu planning will be at Backus at the Jan. 19 meeting. Torseth and treasurer Hoa Sobczynski will purchase the food items needed, as before. It was agreed to add more tables, with a maximum of 10, seating eight people each. There will be advertising soon and tickets sales will be announced.
The 2015 scholarship recipients were reminded by letter of their requirement to participate in the musical program and help clean up. Responses can be emailed to lindatorseth@hotmail.com.
