The regular meeting of the Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order at 7 p.m. May 10 by president Linda Chezick with 11 members present.
The opening ritual was held. Roll call of officers was conducted with Tina Hofius, guard, pro-tem; Dawn Flesland, conductress, pro-tem; and Irene Anderson, chaplain, pro-tem.
There were no petitions for membership.
The minutes from the April meeting, the General Orders and correspondence was read. The treasurer’s report was read and filed, subject to audit.
Anderson reported on Youth Activities and Americanism. The last Bingo at Good Samaritan Society-International Falls is set for May 19. Pies will also be served May 19 at Littlefork Care Center.
Dates to remember include: May 21, Armed Forces Day; May 30, Memorial Day; June 14, Flag Day; and July 4, Independence Day.
The Veterans and Family Support report was given by Chezick. Kathy Sikkila reported on Minnesota Scholarships.
Flesland was nominated for the office of treasurer.
Donations were made to Tuesday Musicale and the Memorial Day Foundation.
Awards given to the Auxiliary at Loyalty Days in Pengilly included first place for Minnesota Scholarships, reporting and participation; citation of merit for Veterans and Family Support; citation of merit for Americanism; and honorable mention for the National Scholarship Program.
Following the 5 p.m. June 14 meeting, members will carpool to Thunderbird Lodge for dinner. Any members who wish to sign up for dinner should call Beth Johnson at 283-9029.
The charter was draped for departed member Ann Longtine, who passed away April 22.
Poppy dates to note include: May 17, 2 p.m., assemble poppy cards; May 18, poppy cards to local businesses; May 19, paper mill; and May 20, sidewalk. Donations accepted.
Memorial Day services will be conducted May 30. Flags will be placed at Forest Hill Cemetery at 9 a.m. May 28 and picked up May 31.
Services scheduled at the cemeteries include: Ray Cemetery, 9 a.m.; Kabetogama Cemetery, 10:30; Ericsburg Cemetery, 11:30; and Forest Hill Cemetery, 1 p.m. A re-dedication of Peter Graham Post 2948 will follow services at 2:30.
Installation of officers was conducted with the following elected for the 2016-17 term: president, Pat DeLapp; senior vice, Kathy Sikkila; junior vice, Diane Kelly; treasurer, Dawn Flesland; conductress, Lori Nicodemus; guard, Linda Chezick; chaplain, Irene Anderson; trustee No. 3, Lori Nicodemus; soloist, Margarete Kostiuk; patriotic instructor, Irene Anderson; and secretary, Beth Johnson.
Door prize was won by DeLapp.
The meeting concluded at 8:25 p.m. with closing ceremonies.
The next meeting will be at 5 p.m. (note time change) June 14 in the Post Home dining room.
