The regular meeting of the Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order at 7 p.m. July 12 by president Pat Delapp with 10 members present.

The opening ritual was held. Roll call of officers was conducted. There were no petitions for membership.

The General Orders and the meeting minutes from May and June were read. A correction was made to the May minutes to include that a donation was made to the Auxiliary for the memorial service for Ross Delapp.

Treasurer Dawn Flesland distributed copies of the treasurers report and it was filed, subject to audit.

Reports were given on Americanism and Youth activities by Irene Anderson. Planned are a fall essay contest for grade 5, a coloring contest for grades kindergarten through grade 2, and a poster contest for grades 3 and 4.

Anderson was presented an award from the Memorial Blood Center for being the chairperson for blood drives. During the 2015 year, 99 units of blood were collected.

Members are reminded that as of July 1, dues need to be paid. Life memberships are encouraged as these amounts increase after Jan. 1, 2017.

President Delapp thanked all who rode the Fourth of July float and helped with the lunch following the parade. The float won first place for a non-themed entry.

The 8th District meetings are set for Aug. 6-7 in International Falls. Officers meeting and registration will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Meetings will be conducted Sunday morning, followed by a lunch at the Post Home. All members are encouraged to attend.

The Auxiliary made a donation to a fund set up for local wrestler Pete Benedix,who is traveling to Poland in October.

A party for area care center residents is planned for Aug. 25 at the Post Home. The Second Wind Harmonic Band of Grand Rapids will perform and a light lunch will be served.

Shirt protectors were donated to the Auxiliary by Sue Dion for veterans in nursing homes.

Due to the change in officers, a new signature form was brought to the meeting from the bank. The Auxiliary must update accounts to reflect the incoming officers.

Door prize was won by Lois Adee.

The meeting concluded at 8:10 p.m. with the closing ceremonies.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 in the Post Home dining room.
