The regular meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2948 was called to order at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 by senior vice Kathy Sikkila with 10 members present.

The opening ritual was held, roll call of officers conducted with Tina Hofius, Guard, pro-tem.

Motions were made to dispense with the reading of the July meeting minutes and July treasurer’s report as copies were distributed to members present.

Correspondence and the General Orders were read. A letter dated July 16, 2015, was read from Diane Kelly resigning as auxiliary president. The Audit report was read for the months of April, May and June.

Reports were given on Americanism and Youth Activities by Irene Anderson. Sept. 18th is POW/MIA Day. Bingo at the Good Samaritan Society-International Falls is scheduled to begin in September.

Pat Delapp reported on the Fairview/Hospice butterfly release Aug. 9 at Lenard’s. The Auxiliary had purchased a butterfly to release in remembrance of departed auxiliary sisters.

The Veterans and Family Support report was given by Linda Chezick. She reported on the upcoming Stand Down set for 8 a.m. Aug. 20 at Backus Community Center. Set up will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 19. Volunteers are needed to assist both days.

Margarete Kostiuk reported that the party is all organized for residents from area care centers to attend at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Post. Second Wind Harmonic Band of Grand Rapids will perform.

The Auxiliary had a memorial service for Adeline Gerlach at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Post dining room.

Pies were served at 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at Littlefork Care Center.

The 8th District meeting will be conducted Aug. 22 in Grand Rapids.

A sign up sheet is available for Taco Mondays. The fundraiser is going well and more help is needed.

A blood drive will be staged Aug. 21 at the Post. Contact Irene Anderson to sign up.

The position of Auxiliary president is open. Any members interested should contact senior vice Sikkila.

Donations were made to Friends of the Library and to purchase a POW/MIA flag.

Door prize was won by Megan Boe.

The meeting concluded at 8:25 p.m. with closing ceremonies.

The next meeting will be Sept. 8 in the Post dining room.
