The Ice Box of the Nation AARP Chapter gathered for the first 2012-13 meeting Sept. 12 at Koochiching County Senior Citizens Center. President Tom Wagner called the meeting to order at 1 p.m. The informal meeting was very lively and diverse. We discussed many topics of interest to seniors in the area.
Wagner reminded members that the group is non-political and as such, politics is “off the table.” However, the group did touch on topics such as Medicare changes (which the national AARP is watching very carefully), especially the possibility of everyone being forced to purchase health insurance. Once again discussed were known scams that are being used to get seniors to waste their money. Other social issues were also discussed over refreshments.
Seniors are reminded that meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. The group meets the second Wednesday of each month, same time and place.
Charlotte Saari volunteered to be hostesses of the Oct. 10 meeting.
