The Icebox Radio Theater is preparing for its premiere event of the year — a live show at Pete Peterson Bandshell at Smokey Bear Park Wednesday.
A pre-show program is set to begin at 7 p.m. with the broadcast to start at 7:15 p.m.
This year's show, titled “The Big Broadcast” can be heard live on 91.9 FM The Edge locally, and on http://www.soundstagesradio.com all over the world.
Everyone is invited to come to the band shell and see how a live musical-variety radio program gets on the air.
This years lineup includes:
• Several original songs by Myron Hawyrlak and his all-Northland “orchestra.”
• Several original songs by local band “Paper Parlor.”
• A duet between Aela Mackintosh and Vicki Olson with Sean Bahr.
The show will also include a series of skits by the Icebox Radio Actor's Guild including:
• Shed: Northland Veterinarian — a promotion for next season's big medical drama about an eccentric veterinarian who takes on the toughest cases.
• Code Name: Hot Dish — two crack cooks for the Department of Homeland Security stop a potential terrorist with a little home cooking and some good old fashioned “Minnesota Nice.”
• Berlin's Swim — the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth misplaced a few animals recently during the devastating floods. Now we can learn what Berlin the polar bear really did during her vacation from captivity.
The main play of the evening is a new comedy from Jeffrey Adams titled “Along the Shore.” The play involves two people in the autumn of their years who have their lives turned upside down when his daughter and her son marry to create a new family with seven grandkids. During a family vacation, the stress and personal differences get to be too much. Will they be able to pull it together before the kids notice? Tom Bement and Vicki Olson star.
“The Big Broadcast” is free to watch at the bandshell, but showgoers should bring their own seating. This program is presented as part of the Wednesday “Concerts in the Park” series.
