A brief business meeting was conducted May 29 at the Holiday Inn to make decisions regarding the Fourth of July, our August potluck and auction. The lunch wagon will be at Smokey Bear Park July 3 and 4. Brats, hot dogs, fish and French fries will be our featured food items. Balloons, coffee and ice cold pop will also be available.

Instead of having our Christmas party and auction in December, the club is planning a pig roast and auction for Aug. 22. Along with the pig will be a potluck supper at Rick and Beth Reed’s pole barn.

Following the business meeting, members gathered with their many friends from the Fort Frances clubs to celebrate our 55th anniversary known as charter night. Our club was sponsored by the Virginia Lions Club in 1954.

District Governor Gary Hutchison and his wife Susan, of Vermillion Bay, Ontario, were in attendance. He spoke highly of our accomplishments and said our Mid-Winter Convention was one of the best he had attended.

Dick Briese presented club awards. The Melvin Jones fellow plaque for outstanding humanitarian services was awarded to Betty Villalta. A Melvin Jones diamond pin was given to Evelyn Perron who already has the Melvin Jones plaque. The awards were a complete surprise to both of them.

The program closed with a very entertaining and interacting show by Grandpa Magic.
