Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver will be performed Saturday as the first Border Concert of the 68th season.

The event stars Jim Curry and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the E.W. Backus Auditorium. It is brought to town by the Border Concert Association as the first performance of the season.

Some of Denver’s songs that will be performed include “Rocky Mountain High,” “I’m Leaving On a Jet Plane,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” and “Country Roads.”

Curry is known as the top performer of Denver’s music today. This tribute is the first and only full-length Denver tribute to headline in Las Vegas and has been celebrated nationally and internationally.

Denver’s death in 1997 “was a tragedy that was felt the world over,” stated a media release. “This void in the musical world left John’s ardent fans demanding that his music survive.”

Curry was involved in a television movie, “Take Me Home: the John Denver Story” produced by CBS Television. Curry’s voice was selected as the voice of Denver.

“Jim Curry’s natural voice has to be heard, but he also has to be seen to understand the pleasant coincidence that captures the natural essence of John Denver’s persona and music,” stated the release.

The performance will be superimposed with multimedia images of wildlife photos and videos.

“This is a show that truly fills up your senses,” the release stated.

Pete Huttlinger, guitarist with Denver, has attended Curry’s performances.

“Jim Curry was over there sounding like John Denver,” Huttlinger said in a prepared statement. “A couple of times I closed my eyes and went back 15 years.”
