Comedian Kenny Ahern will perform tonight (Wednesday, June 27) at 7 p.m. at the Bandshell in Smokey Bear Park. Come prepared to laugh, giggle, chortle and guffaw. Come an hour earlier at 6 for 30 to 40 minutes of Summer Stories in the Park.

Monday, July 2, at 3 p.m. the library is hosting author Julia Maki. She is the author of My Mom Hunts Submarines and the just published All Hands on Deck: Dad’s Coming Home! She will have books available for sale and will talk about writing and publishing her books as well as her career in the Navy.

Tuesday is craft day at the library. Each Tuesday we put out the supplies for a craft project for 75 to 100 people. Stop into the library anytime during the day and create, check out a few books and enjoy spending time at the library.

The library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Regular hours will be maintained the rest of the week. Regular summer hours are Monday and Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday noon to 8 (except July 4), Thursday and Friday 10 to 6, closed Saturday and Sunday. The junior room is open until 6 every day except Tuesday when it remains open until 8.

Teen gaming will occur in July on Tuesdays, July 10 and July 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. Teen gaming is open to anyone entering grades 7 and above. No registration is needed and refreshments are provided.

Family gaming will be Thursday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. The library gaming equipment and a variety of board games will be made available to families. Whether the weather is hot or rainy the library basement is a great place to hang out.

Stories in the Park continue each Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in Smokey Bear Park (unless the weather is yucky, then come to the library). The summer Concerts in the Park begin at 7. Make an evening of it and bring a picnic supper and relax, share good times with friends and family.

The Friends monthly book sale will be Thursday, July 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. All sales are by donation with proceeds benefiting the Friends of the Library support of the library.

Wednesday, July 25, the library will bring in the second Arrowhead Library System Kids Stuff performer, Magician Star Michaelina at 4 p.m. Join us for a terrific time of magic and more.

And of course, the last Thursday in July, July 26, is the last day for kids to turn in hours to receive their free T-shirt beginning Thursday, Aug. 2.

Summer reading programs for children, teens and adults continue in July. We will accept kids’ hours read for prizes (except t-shirts) through the end of August. The teen and adult deadline for prizes is changing with Wednesday, Aug. 15 now being the last day to turn in slips for books read. Prize winners including the grand prize of an iPad2 will be announced Thursday, Aug. 16.
