Photographers and writers are needed for the International Falls Public Library’s new program “Pictures and Pens.”

Pictures and Pens is a monthly program that pairs photographs and stories. Each month, library officials are asking for photographers to submit photos that tell a story. Writers will then be sought to tell and submit the story of that photograph.

Each month, beginning in May, library staff want photographers to submit up to two, unframed 8x10 photographs with their name and contact information on the back. Submission deadline for photographs is the 10th of each month.

A local photo club, Northwoods Shutterbugs, will select one photo each month to receive a cash prize. Photos not selected will be carried over to the following month. The winning photographer will be ineligible to win the next month, but can submit again after that. The winning photographer and photo will be announced on the first day of each month, beginning in June.

Starting in June, library staff will seek writers to view the winning photograph and tell its story. Writers have until the last day of each month to submit their story complete with their name and contact information on the back of the last sheet.

The writing club will select one story to receive a cash prize. The winning writer will be ineligible to win the next month, but can submit after that.

The winning photos and stories will be posted on the library blog at http://ifallslibrary.blogspot.com and will be available for viewing in the library. At the end of the year, the 12 winning photo and story combinations will be compiled for a book.

The program is funded by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.
