Fall is definitely in the air and that brings out a desire in me to learn and grow. Maybe it is the number of years I spent in school and then when my kids were in school, fall just seems to say ‘let’s learn something new, let’s stockpile knowledge.’

The library has lots of materials to help you learn. We can help you learn in whatever learning style works best for you. If you want to learn from books we can provide, if you are a visual learner and want to see something demonstrated or explained we have lots of documentaries and instructional DVDs. If you prefer to do your learning at 2 in the morning then be sure and take a look at our online resources available whenever you need them, including learning a language, remodeling your home, repairing a boat motor and more. These online resources require a login and password so call or stop by the library to pick up a card with the account information. The library website can be found at http://internationalfallslibrary.us and the resource link is on the left hand side.

If you prefer leaning with your hands then I encourage you to participate in the writers’ group or maybe the photography group. Both groups encourage you to get out and do. Write those stories, take those pictures, learn and get better. The library encourages everyone to participate in the Pictures and Pens programs. Each month we solicit photos for a monthly contest and then ask for writers to tell the story of the photograph the next month. Winning Pictures and Pens photos and stories can be found on the library blog at http://ifallslibrary.blogspot.com or in a binder in the library. See the amazing photos and stories created by residents of this community.

Don’t forget to join us Monday evening, Sept. 24, for a couple of great programs. At 6:30 p.m. at the library, Glen Everhart will perform his Heebie Jeebies Family Music Comedy Show for families with kids of all ages. But that isn’t all that is happening that evening.

The documentary movie night is back, also at 6:30, but in the Backus Auditorium. The movie this month is “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” part of the PBS “Women, War and Peace” series tells the story of some of the women who brought peace to their war-torn but beloved Liberia. I have been told that one of these women spoke at a Lutheran youth conference this summer and some of our youth have heard her inspiring story. The movie is not appropriate for young children as it includes explicit details about the horrors of war. Join us for this 75-minute film followed by refreshments and discussion.

The library wants to help you make a difference in your own life and in the life of those around you. Become involved in life and new something new! We only have one life to live so let’s get living.
