Falls High School students named as new members of the National Forensic League were: Christine Shoquist, Janelle Story, Carrie Wagner, Jennifer Urban, Ryan Sather, Nicole Soger and Brenda Johnson. NFL President is Sheila Moorhead.

Army Spec. 4 Robert D. House has participated in “Team Spirit ‘87,” a Republic of Korea/United States Combined Forces Command sponsored exercise conducted in South Korea.

Dr. Russell Summer was elected president of the public library board at the annual meeting Wednesday. He succeeds Eugene Williamson, who has served as president the past year. Mrs. Harold Moxness was elected vice president and Mrs. John Corrin, secretary.

Jim Knapp, All-Tournament defenseman from the 1972 State Champion Bronco hockey team, has signed a letter of intent with UMD, it was learned late Wednesday afternoon.

George Boyum, Ray, returned home from a two-week vacation in Florida. He accompanied several boys from the Falls on the trip.

50 YEARS AGO

Gordon Messerschmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Messerschmidt, Island View Route, completed the prescribed course in cosmetology on April 3 at the Thief River Falls Area Vocational-Technical School.

Douglas Plank, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plank, 1023 Eighth St., has recently been elected historian of Mu Sigma Chapter of the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Miss Blanche Borgan of Baudette, who will graduate from Bemidji State College this spring, has been hired by the International Falls school board to teach kindergarten.

60 YEARS AGO

A group of Falls High School graduates of the Class of 1949 honored Sgt. Donald Berns at a farewell party. Sgt. Berns has just completed a four-year tour of duty in the Army and re-enlisted for another three years.

A son was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Henry of Ray, weight, 7 pounds, 15 ounces. Name chosen, David Loren.

The District 4 school board hired five primary and intermediate teachers to serve during the next school term. New teachers include Miss Harriet Sireen, Miss Beverly Kiesow, Miss Delores Ferrari, Miss Loretta Bantz and Miss Colleen Kennitz.

Joan Nelson, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Nelson, 206 Sixth Ave., was painfully burned last week when a bottle of caustic acid found on the lawn of the Mando research building was thrown at her by a playmate.

Mrs. Carl Krokum was guest of honor at a shower Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Arne Vasenius, 1017 Sixth St. Hostesses were Mrs. Ben Thompson, Marshall Brown, Hartman Brothern, Carl Klein and Vasenius.

Mr. and Mrs. John Erchul, 340 Third St., announce the birth of a daughter today at the Laurion Maternity Home.

Mr. and Mrs. William Pelto, 819 1/2 Fifth St., announce the birth of a son this morning at the Littlefork Hospital. The new arrival weighed 8 1/2 pounds.

David Heritage, International Falls youth, was awarded the grand prize in the annual bird house contest sponsored this year by the Rainy Lake Horticultural Society. David’s bird house was judged best in class one, for boys and girls over 14, and in competition with other juvenile entries won the sweepstakes award.
