Sherri Cowgill recently has joined the staff at Realty World-Northwood Inc., according to the Falls real estate agency.

Joseph F. Black, formerly with Strout Realty Inc., has been appointed the representative in charge of the new International Falls office of United National Real Estate. The office is located at 815 Fifth St.

40 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Richard Tye fell and broke her hip. She is hospitalized in Virginia.

The International Falls School Board recently employed Charles Lindahl as teacher for the educable mentally retarded for the 1972-73 term. He replaced Mrs. Howard Milette, who has transferred to the intermediate grades in Alexander Baker School.

Falls students named to the winter quarter dean’s list at Moorhead State College include Gary Bigler, Vivian Ewing, Florence Horgen and John Kaviuk.

50 YEARS AGO

David A. Schmidtbauer, H/C, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmidtbauer, 805 Eighth Ave., was transferred to Great Lakes, Ill. Hospital corpsman Schmidtbauer was previously stationed at San Diego, Calif.

Army Private Romaine V. Herberg, son of Mrs. Emma J. Herberg of Littlefork, was recently assigned to the U.S. Army Signal School at Fort Monmouth, N.J., for advanced specialized training.

Seventh grade basketball champs are Bill Howard, Lyle Christenson, Gary Vold, Dennis Adee, Richard McGregor and Stewart Milette.

60 YEARS AGO

Robert Blanchard, South International Falls, left for Minneapolis Sunday evening enroute to his employment at operation “Bluejay” in the North Atlantic.

A daughter was born at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Fao Toninato, 1128 10th St., weight, 7 pounds, 9 ounces. Name chosen, Susan Marie.

Falls Bowling Center will be closed about May 15 and the alleys and equipment moved to Hibbing. Fritz Vonder Haar, proprietor, today reported that he has definitely decided to transfer the equipment, having failed to find a buyer who would continue the center for bowlers. Falls Bowling Center at 307 Fourth St. opened in 1940 and has been a popular winter recreation place since then.

Trappers George Blesi, 1120 13th Ave., and John Fraik, Banen Apartments, caught a 75-pound female beaver. The animal measured more than four feet from nose to tail tip and is said to be among the largest ever trapped in the border area.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Walter Beebe, adult supervisor of the Junior American Legion Auxiliary, was pleasantly surprised on her birthday Saturday when the presidents of the two groups, Mavis Jornlin and Helene Kotilinek, presented her with several gifts in behalf of the group.

Mrs. Glenn Krantz, 724 Fifth Ave., was guest of honor at a stork shower last evening at her home. Hostesses were Mmes. Joseph Parker, Alton LaPlante, F.E. Krantz and Fred Rasmussen.

Mrs. William Peterson, 1144 Seventh Ave., underwent an appendectomy today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Mrs. C.J. Houska, Ranier, was guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at her home. The women spent the afternoon visiting after which refreshments, including a large birthday cake, was served.
