Airman Rex D. Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Cole, 1033 Second St., and Airman Dale R. Sundin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Einar R. Sundin of Ray, have completed their U.S. Air Force basic training at the Air Training Command’s Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Appointment of Lloyd Walls as safety director for the Falls Paper Division of Boise Cascade was announced today by William Smerika, manager of personnel relations.

The American Legion Auxiliary of the William Robideau Post today announced the selection of the 1972 Girls Stater and alternate. They are Mary Veranth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Veranth, 1005 Ninth St., and Sandra Stenberg, alternate, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stenberg Jr., 516 Seventh Ave.

A girl was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Tomczak, South International Falls, 7 pounds, 5 ounces.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Browman, former border city residents, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in Crescent City, Calif., recently.

At installation ceremonies in Moose Hall last night, Joseph Krall was seated as governor of Loyal Order of Moose for his second term.

Dave Smith, Jerry Emery, Don Larson and Jerry Graham took first place in the 440 relay during the Iron Range Conference Relays.

60 YEARS AGO

A daughter was born today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances, to Mr. and Mrs. Russell Swenson, Riverside Park, weight, 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Pvt. William Arlen Cullen, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cullen, South International Falls, is completing his basic airmen indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Bryan announced today they have leased the Deep Rock service station, located at Third Avenue and Seventh Street, and have arranged a get-acquainted opening for Sunday. The Bryans transferred their residence from St. Paul to International Falls this week. The couple is residing in Keyes Arcade.

Cpl. Jack Lind, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Lind, Highway 53, arrived home on a 30-day furlough before reporting to Camp Stoneman, California, for assignment in the Far East.

Mrs. Carl Martin was guest of honor at a shower last evening at her home. Hostesses were Mrs. C.J. Molander and Mrs. Ted Blinsmon.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dahl of Holler, formerly of Loman, are parents of a daughter born today at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Little Diane Steinmetz, daughter of Mrs. Edna Steinmetz, underwent an appendectomy at the Northern Minnesota Hospital.

Miss Janet Mae Boe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boe, left for Los Angeles where she will be employed in defense work.
