Army Sgt. Barry M. Anthony, 23, son of Mrs. Joyce B. Engleson, 917 Eighth St., recently was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Pearson, of 115 Park Ave., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Shirley Mae, to Paul David Gravett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burley Gravett, of Toledo, Ore.

The Mill City was the site chosen for the 80th birthday party of a 60-year resident of Koochiching County. Mrs. Alvina Krohn, 324 Seventh St., was honored at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Jax Cafe, Minneapolis, with her grandchildren as hosts and hostesses.

50 YEARS AGO

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kalar, 1725 First Ave. E., announce the birth of their son, Peter Scott, today at La Verendrye Hospital, Fort Frances. The infant weight 6 pounds, 12 ounces.

Mrs. Milton Kochaniuk was guest of honor at a stork shower recently at the Roland Decker home, 1411 Home Lane. Mrs. Marguerite Kelly was assisting hostess.

Ronald Caple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Caple, 806 Eighth St., has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Cooperative fellowship in the amount of $4,400.

Mrs. Ernest Silvers, 1602 Third Ave. E., was guest of honor at a birthday party held at The Spot restaurant Saturday night. Guests present were the Mmes. Lois Larson, Jennie Skalsky, Rose Bolin, Betty Thomas and Sadie Steele.

Darold Gustafson, 403 1/2 Sixth St., was guest of honor at a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Henry Orstad, 1220 Second Ave. E.

A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Davis, Ranier, weight, 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Name chosen, Laurie Ann.

Tom Bergstedt, assistant freshman cage coach at the University of Minnesota, will guide basketball activities at Falls High School next fall. Bergstedt, who will graduate from the university this spring, is majoring in physical education.

Mrs. Eli Jerome, 1117 11th Ave.,, was honored at two farewell parties this week. She and her children, Judy and David, will leave Saturday for Bernie, Mo., to make their home. Capt. Jerome is stationed as an instructor at Malden Air Force Base near Bernie.

70 YEARS AGO

Twenty-five friends and relatives surprised Mrs. Clifford Sather Wednesday afternoon, the occasion being her birthday.

Marvin Bolstad has solved the transportation problem. He recently purchased two bicycles and he and Mrs. Bolstad will commute between Birch Point and the Falls this summer.

Joe McGregor, mason helper and a long-time Mando employee, is at Littlefork Hospital. He suffered an attack of lead poisoning during a recent trip to Detroit to line digesters for the Detroit Sulphite Pulp and Paper Company.

Mr. and Mrs. George Titus of Ranier have just received a letter from their son, Donald, who is serving with the Armed Forces on Bataan Peninsula.
